With his warm, sunshine-inspired sound, you’d be forgiven if you thought that Summer Heart had emerged dripping from the surf beaches of Southern California. But the multi-instrumentalist (whose real name is David Alexander) actually hails from Sweden — and, contrary to his onstage moniker, his nostalgia-inflected tunes are the perfect dreamy accompaniment all year long. So, just in time for the weather to finally heat up, we quizzed Alexander on the best places to visit in Stockholm. From his go-to hangover stopper to a secret karaoke bar, let Summer Heart brief you on the ultimate Swedish getaway.
Best place to cure a hangover: “Bagel Street Café. They’ve got some great vegan bagels and other goodies all served in a nice environment. And after that, a beer at Bara Enkelt at Skånegatan does the rest.
Best place to see a show: “My favorite place to see live shows used to be Debaser Slussen. Sadly enough they had to close. At the moment I think Debaser Strand is one of the better venues in Stockholm.”
Best place to take your friends from out of town: “Definitely for a walk along the water around Kungsholmen on a sunny day. And of course a couple of mandatory stops for coffee along the way.”
Best place to get Swedish wardrobe essentials: “For Swedish brands I think Weekday at Götgatan is pretty cool. Although my favorite clothing shop is Humana Second Hand near Mariatorget.”
Best place for meatballs: “Not sure. I don’t eat meat.”
Best-kept secret: “Restaurant Kokyo at Sveavägen. A very nice Asian restaurant with great vegan options and a VIP room with karaoke. Yes!”
Best record store: “Mosebacke Records at Hökens Gata has loads of cool records. Definitely worth a visit if you are into vinyl.”
